Recent Day Trip Review

Wilkinson's Castle
16 March 2017

The day started with a stopover at Waitara where local identity Clive Pryme joined the bus and took members for an interesting tour of Waitara and explained some of the history of the town (pre and post European Settlement). Morning tea was provided at the Town & Country Club after which the bus travelled on to Wilkinson's Castle stopping on the way for a quick tour around the Urenui Beach Camp. At Wilkinson's Castle the group was treated to a pleasant lunch in the Castle grounds by members of the Urenui Lions Club. It was a bright sunny day and members were free to explore the Castle and grounds. On the return journey back to New Plymouth the bus stopped at Urenui where the group made a short walk in order to view Sir Peter Buck's birthplace in 1880. A further stop was made at the Methanex Plant visitors centre at Motonui where the Methanex Quality Control Engineer Mr. Adam Hinton explained the workings of the plant and answered questions.
